*స్త్రియాః ప్రవిష్ట ఉదరం పుంసో రేతఃకణాశ్రయః॥*
*తాత్పర్యము : శ్రీ కపిల భగవానుడు పలికెను - అమ్మా! జీవుడు మానవ జన్మ ఎత్తుటకు భగవంతుని ప్రేరణతో తన పూర్వకర్మానుసారము (పూర్వ సంస్కారములను బట్టి) దేహప్రాప్తి కొఱకు పురుషుని వీర్య కణము ద్వారా స్త్రీ గర్భమున ప్రవేశించును.*

*01. śrī-bhagavān uvāca*
*karmaṇā daiva-netreṇa jantur dehopapattaye*
*striyāḥ praviṣṭa udaraṁ puṁso retaḥ-kaṇāśrayaḥ*
*MEANING : The Personality of Godhead said: Under the supervision of the Supreme Lord and according to the result of his work, the living entity, the soul, is made to enter into the womb of a woman through the particle of male semen to assume a particular type of body.*
*PURPORT : It is said in Bhagavad-gītā that a living entity is wandering in this material world on a chariot made by material nature. Under the supervision of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Material nature supplies the body, but it does so under the direction of the Supersoul. The Supreme Lord, as Supersoul, is always present with the individual soul. He directs material nature to supply a particular type of body to the individual soul according to the result of his work, and the material nature supplies it. Here one word, retaḥ-kaṇāśrayaḥ, is very significant because it indicates that it is not the semen of the man that creates life within the womb of a woman; rather, the living entity, the soul, takes shelter in a particle of semen and is then pushed into the womb of a woman. Then the body develops. There is no possibility of creating a living entity without the presence of the soul simply by sexual intercourse. The materialistic theory that there is no soul and that a child is born simply by material combination of the sperm and ovum is not very feasible. It is unacceptable.*

*మనం మనది అని ఆలోచిస్తూ ఉండవచ్చు, కానీ ఆ విషయాలు తమ స్వతంత్రతను నొక్కి చెప్పే సమయం వస్తుంది. “ఓహ్, మేము మీలాగే పూర్తిగా స్వతంత్రులం. మేము మీకు చెందినవారమని మీరు అనుకుంటున్నారు, అలాగే మీరు మాకు చెందినవారని మేము అనుకోవచ్చు. నేనెందుకు మీకు చెందాలి? నువ్వు నాకు ఎందుకు చెందకూడదు?' కొన్ని వస్తువులు ‘నావి’, కొన్ని వస్తువులు ‘మీవి’ అని ఎందుకు అంటాము? మనం అలా ఎందుకు ఆలోచిస్తాము? ఇతరులు కూడా మనం వారికి చెందినవారమని అనుకోవచ్చు. మనకు సంబంధించిన ఇతర వస్తువులకు బదులుగా, మనం వేరొకదానికి చెందినవారై ఉండవచ్చు.*

*We may be thinking that it is ours, but a time comes when those things assert their independence. “Oh, we are absolutely independent, just as you are. You think that we belong to you, as well as we may think that you belong to us. Why should I belong to you, sir? Why shouldn’t you belong to me?” Why do we say some objects are ‘mine’, some objects are ‘yours’? What makes us think like that? The others also may think that we belong to them. Instead of other things belonging to us, we may belong to something else.*
*There is a relativity of belonging and relationship. Sometimes we are told that this is the world of relativity, one thing hanging on another and nothing absolutely independent by itself. We hang on something else, that thing hangs on us. This is a simple, crude explanation of the relativity of things, which will be more fully explained in the next lesson. There is an unintelligible relationship between man and nature.*

*బీజా - విత్తనం; అవధానం - శ్రద్ధ. -- బీజ, విశ్వం యొక్క బీజం, స్వాతంత్ర్యశక్తి అని కూడా పిలువబడే శివుని స్వతంత్ర శక్తి సమాధి అని పిలువబడే లోతైన ధ్యాన దశలో గ్రహించ బడుతుంది. సమాధి యొక్క లోతైన దశలలో మాత్రమే అన్వేషకుడికి మరియు కోరినవారికి మధ్య సంభాషణ జరుగుతుంది. సమాధి యొక్క లోతైన దశలో పరమాత్మతో స్పృహ యొక్క నిలుపుదల లేనప్పుడు మాత్రమే పొందబడుతుంది. అటువంటి అభిలాషి భగవంతుని విధులను నిర్వర్తించ బోతున్నందున క్షణం కూడా నిష్క్రియంగా ఉండలేడు. ఈ సూత్రం భగవంతునితో నిరంతర అనుసంధానం యొక్క ప్రాముఖ్యతను నొక్కి చెబుతుంది.*

*Bīja – the seed; avadhānam – attentiveness. -- Bīja, the seed of the universe, the independent energy of Śiva also known as svātantryaśakti is realised in the deep meditative stage known as samādi. Only in deeper stages of samādi the communication between the seeker and the Sought happens. Deeper stage of samādi is attained only if there is no discontinuity of consciousness with the Supreme. Such an aspirant cannot remain passive even for a moment, as he is about to perform the functions of the Lord. This sūtra emphasizes the importance of continued connectivity with the Lord.*
