🌻 13. మనం ఒకే సమయంలో మర్త్యులము మరియు చిరంజీవులము కూడా. 🌻
మనలోని జీవ సూత్రం మృత్యువు మరియు అమరత్వం అనే ద్వంద్వ లక్షణాన్ని కలిగి ఉంది. మనం ఒకే సమయంలో మర్త్యులం మరియు అమరులం. మనలోని మర్త్య మూలకం తనదైన రీతిలో తనదైన వ్యక్తీకరణను కోరుకునే అమరమైన కోరికతో సంబంధంలోకి వచ్చినప్పుడు దుఃఖాన్ని కలిగిస్తుంది. ఆత్మాశ్రయ భావాలు మరియు నిష్పాక్షిక విశ్వం మధ్య విపరీతమైన ఘర్షణ ఉంటుంది. విశ్వం యొక్క బలాన్ని ఎవరూ తెలుసుకోలేరు. మనస్సు దానిని ఊహించలేదు. కానీ మనం దానిని అధిగమించడానికి ప్రయత్నిస్తున్నాము. మనం మన ఊహలను విస్తరింప చేసి, ఈ పని యొక్క పరిమాణాన్ని మన జ్ఞాపకాలలోకి తీసుకురావడానికి ప్రయత్నించవచ్చు.
మనం వ్యక్తులుగా, మనకి కనిపించినట్లుగా, మొత్తం విశ్వంలోని శక్తులను ఎదుర్కోవటానికి నడుం కట్టుకుంటున్నాము. ఒక అర్ఞునుడు మొత్తం కౌరవ శక్తులను ఎదుర్కొన్నట్లుగా. అవును, అర్జునుడికి ఆ బలం ఉంది మరియు లేదు కూడా. అర్జునుడు ఒంటరిగా నిలబడితే భీష్ముడు ఒక్క రోజులోనే అతనిని జయించే వాడు. దుర్యోధనుడు ప్రతిరోజూ భీష్ముని ముందు వేడుకొంటూ బిగ్గరగా ఇలా అడిగేవాడు, “పితామహ, నువ్వు బ్రతికే ఉన్నావు, నువ్వు బ్రతికి ఉన్నప్పటికి, మన బంధుమిత్రులు వేల సంఖ్యలో ఎలా ఊచకోత కోయబడు తున్నారు. నీ కళ్లతో ఎలా దీనిని ఎలా చూడ గలుగుతున్నావు అని.”

🌻 13. We are Mortals and Immortals at the Same Time 🌻
The jiva principle within us has the double characteristic of mortality and immortality. We are mortals and immortals at the same time. It is the mortal element in us that causes sorrow when it comes in contact with the immortal urge that seeks its own expression in its own manner. There is a tremendous friction, as it were, taking place between the subjective feelings and the objective cosmos. No one can know the strength of the universe. The mind cannot imagine it, and we are trying to overstep it. We can stretch our imagination and try to bring to our memories what could be the magnitude of this task.
We as individuals, as we appear to be, are girding up our loins to face the powers of the whole universe—a single Arujna facing the entire Kaurava forces, as it were. Yes, Arjuna had the strength, and also he had no strength. If Arjuna stood alone, he could be blown off in one day by a man like Bhishma. Well, Duryodhana pleaded every day before Bhishma and cried aloud, “Grandsire, you are alive, and even when you are alive, thousands and thousands of our kith and kin are being massacred. How can you see it with your eyes?”
