18. త్రైవర్గికాస్తే పురుషాః విముఖా హరిమెధసః|
కథాయాం కథనీయోరు విక్రమస్య మధుద్విషః॥
తాత్పర్యము : వారు ధర్మార్ధ కామముల యందే ఆసక్తులు అగుదురు. అందువలన అత్యంత శక్తిమంతుడు, సంసార బంధములను త్రుంచి వేయు వాడు ఐన నారాయణుని యొక్క శ్రవణానంద కరములైన కథల యందు వారు విముఖులగుదురు.
వ్యాఖ్య : వైదిక ఆలోచన ప్రకారం, నాలుగు ఉన్నతమైన సూత్రాలు ఉన్నాయి, అవి మతతత్వం, ఆర్థికాభివృద్ధి, ఇంద్రియ సంతృప్తి మరియు విముక్తి. భౌతిక ఆనందంపై ఆసక్తి ఉన్న వ్యక్తులు మొదటి మూడు విధులను అమలు చేయడానికి ప్రణాళికలు వేస్తారు. వారు మతపరమైన ఆచారాలు, ఆర్థిక ఔన్నత్యం మరియు ఇంద్రియ ఆనందం అనే మూడు ఉన్నత ప్రక్రియలపై ఆసక్తి కలిగి ఉన్నారు. వారి ఆర్థిక స్థితిని అభివృద్ధి చేయడం ద్వారా, వారు భౌతిక జీవితాన్ని ఆనందించవచ్చు. భౌతికవాద వ్యక్తులు, కాబట్టి, త్రై-వర్గికా అని పిలువబడే ఆ ఉన్నత ప్రక్రియలపై ఆసక్తి కలిగి ఉంటారు. ట్రాయ్ అంటే 'మూడు'; వర్గిక అంటే 'ఎలివేటింగ్ ప్రక్రియలు.' అటువంటి భౌతికవాద వ్యక్తులు పరమేశ్వరునిచే ఎన్నటికీ ఆకర్షించబడరు. బదులుగా, వారు ఆయన పట్ల వ్యతిరేకులు.

🌴 8. Entanglement in Fruitive Activities - 18 🌴
18. trai-vargikās te puruṣā vimukhā hari-medhasaḥ
kathāyāṁ kathanīyoru- vikramasya madhudviṣaḥ
MEANING : Such persons are called trai-vargika because they are interested in the three elevating processes. They are averse to the Godhead, who can give relief to the conditioned soul. They are not interested in the Supreme Personality's pastimes, which are worth hearing because of His transcendental prowess.
PURPORT : According to Vedic thought, there are four elevating principles, namely religiosity, economic development, sense gratification and liberation. Persons who are simply interested in material enjoyment make plans to execute prescribed duties. They are interested in the three elevating processes of religious rituals, economic elevation and sense enjoyment. By developing their economic condition, they can enjoy material life. Materialistic persons, therefore, are interested in those elevating processes, which are called trai-vargika. Trai means "three"; vargika means "elevating processes." Such materialistic persons are never attracted by the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Rather, they are antagonistic towards Him.
The Supreme Personality of Godhead is here described as hari-medhaḥ, or "He who can deliver one from the cycle of birth and death." Materialistic persons are never interested in hearing about the marvelous pastimes of the Lord. They think that they are fictions and stories and that the Supreme Godhead is also a man of material nature. They are not fit for advancing in devotional service, or Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Such materialistic persons are interested in newspaper stories, novels and imaginary dramas. The factual activities of the Lord, are related in the Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, which are full of the activities of the Lord. But materialistic persons who engage in elevating their position in the material world are not interested in such activities of the Lord.
