🌻. శంఖచూడుని దూత శివునితో సంభాషించుట - 4 🌻
ఓ కైలాసగిరీశా! నీవు దేవపక్షపాతివని ప్రసిద్ధిని గాంచినావు (30). బలిచక్రవర్తియొక్క సర్వస్వమును ఊడలాగుకొని, ఆతనిని పాతాళమునకు సాగనంపుటకు కారణమేమి? గదాధరుడగు విష్ణువు ద్వారపాలకుడై ఆతనిని ఉద్ధరించినాడు 931). దేవతలు హిరణ్యాక్షుని, ఆతని సోదరుని హింసించుటకు కారణమేమి? దేవతలు శుంభాది రాక్షసులను సంహరించుటకు కారణమేమి? (32).
పూర్వము సముద్రమును మథించినప్పుడు దేవతలు అమృతమున భక్షించిరి. అపుడు మేము ఇడుముల పాలైతిమి. వారందరు ఫలమును అనుభవించిరి (33). ఈ జగత్తు కాలరూపుడగు పరమాత్మకు ఆటవస్తువు. ఆయన ఎప్పుడు ఎవ్వనికి ఐశ్వర్యమునిచ్చునో, అప్పుడు వాడు దానిని భోగించును (34). దేవదానవుల మధ్య శాశ్వతమగు వైరము గలదు. సర్వదా దానికి నిమిత్తము కూడ గలదు. వారికి జయపరాజయములు క్రమముగా కాలమునకు అధీనమై లభించు చుండును 935). వారి ఈ విరోధములో నీవు తలదూర్చుట వ్యర్థము అగును. ఇరుపక్షముల వారికి నీతో సమసంబంధము గలదు. కావున ఈశ్వరుడవగు నీవు ఒక పక్షమున చేరుట సొగసుగా లేదు (36). దేవదానవులకు అందరికీ ప్రభుడవు, మహాత్ముడవు అగు నీవు ఈ నాడు ఈ విధముగా మాతో కయ్యమునకు దిగుట సిగ్గుచేటు (37). నీవు జయించినచో నీ కీర్తి లేశ##మైననూ ఇనుమడించదు. కాని నీవు ఓడినచో కీర్తికి హాని కలుగును. ఈ వైపరీత్యమును నీవు మనస్సులో చక్కగా విచారించదగును (38).
సనత్కుమారుడిట్లు పలికెను - ఈ మాటలను విని ముక్కంటి బిగ్గరగా నవ్వి దానవచక్రకర్తియగు శంఖచూడుని ఉద్దేశించి యథోచితము, మధురము అగు వచనమును పలెకెను (39).

30. Your Majesty too, O Śiva, is famous as a partisan of the gods. Why did you fight with the Tripuras[2] and reduce them to ashes?
31. After divesting him of every thing why was Bali packed off to Sutala and other regions[3]? Did Viṣṇu go to his threshold as his uplifter?
32. Why was Hiraṇyākṣa[4] harassed by the gods along with his brother? Why were Śumbha[5] and other Asuras subjected to fall by the gods?
33. Formerly when the ocean was churned, the nectar was drunk off by the gods.[6] All the strain and stress was ours but the gods reaped the fruit of our endeavour.
34. The entire universe is but an object of sport of Kāla the supreme soul. Whomsoever and whensoever he pleases to bestow the riches he atttains them.
35. The enmity of the gods and the Dānavas is perpetual and sparked off due to some reason or other. By turns, subject to the whims of Kāla they enjoy victory or defeat.
36. Interference on your part in the dispute between the two is futile. This does not behove you, the lord who are equally in touch with both.
37. Your rivalry to us is excessively shameful since you are lord unto the gods as well as to the Asuras. You are the supreme soul.
38. In the event of your victory your fame is not enhanced. In the event of your defeat you suffer a great loss. Let this disadvantage be pondered over.
Sanatkumāra said:—
39. On hearing these words, the three-eyed lord laughed and spoke sweetly to the leading Dānava what seemed proper.
